Senior Accountant

JOB DESCRIPTION

Snelling is seeking a Senior Accountant ($25.00-$29.00/hr) to direct the establishment and implementation of our customer’s accounting policies and procedures. The Senior Accountant will have the overall responsibility for assigned accounting operations and systems as well as associated analysis and report preparation. The Senior Accountant will oversee all accounting tasks relating to income, accounts payables processing, account receivable collection, and reporting.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures
  • Hire, train, mentor, and supervise employees as necessary
  • Review purchase requisitions to ensure general ledger and budget codes are appropriate
    for the item(s) being purchased
  • Process disbursements to vendors based on the reconciliation of invoices, purchase orders
    and receiving documents
  • Prepare all remittance information to be sent with each payment
  • Ensure that necessary information is maintained to ascertain which vendors are subject
    to 1099 reporting and generating 1099 forms
  • Maintain American Express card records and post transactions to the general ledger
  • Be responsible for reconciliation of all general ledger accounts
  • Analyze actual monthly revenue and expense account balances to budget amounts and
    investigates variances
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual fiscal reports required by grants and contracts
  • Prepare monthly cash flow projections as needed
  • Be responsible for setting up individuals in accounting software and providing troubleshoot
    assistance
  • Assist with annual audit
  • Maintain inventory of the organization’s assets
  • Discharge other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or senior management
  • Supervise the activities of the Finance Coordinator and other related staff members

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, or Finance required
  • Experience in working with General Ledger financial statements, account reconciliation, and invoice processing required
  • 5+ years of federal contracting experience, preferably in a non-profit
  • Experience in invoicing and working with Federal Agencies preferred
  • Experience using Microsoft Office products required
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common business and educational journals, financial reports, and legal documents
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from federal agencies, interns, and members of the business community
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, federal agencies, educational institutions, corporate and public groups, and/or board of directors
  • Good communication and writing skills
  • Be knowledgeable in all Microsoft office products including Excel, Word, and Access
  • Must be able to travel on occasion
